PDI #2: Expand Your Impact: Skill-Building Toolkits to Disrupt Career Work - presented by Rich Feller

Create HEROIC mindsets (Hope, self-Efficacy, Resiliency, Optimism, Intentional exploration and Curiosity and Clarity) and clients learn to navigate a lifetime of transitions. Use narrative assessment (onelifetools.com) and clients discover possibilities. Offer aptitude assessment (youscience.com) and clients find their competitive advantage (see the latest research). Stop using the “what do you love to do” question and watch clients be more marketable, expand options, and receive employers praise. Confront the “exposure bias” within interest-only tools which may reduce client success. Use games and on-line storytelling to engage more clients. Leave this session with skills to expand your impact, scale, and deliverables. Promise! This PDI had a full house at the 2018 NCDA Phoenix conference.

Rich Feller 1Rich Feller Ph.D, (richfeller.com) has served as NCDA President, consultant to NASA, UN, NFL, AARP, Semester at Sea and organizations and companies in all 50 US states and on six continents. Professor of Counseling and Career Development and University Distinguished Teaching Scholar at Colorado State University he’s co-author of 3 books, 6 film series, the Who You Are Matters! (onelifetools.com) game, cdminternet , stemcareer.com, youscience.com Chief Advisor, and lead trainer for the JCTC/JCDC Coach Certificate held by 8K career coaches.

    Keynote Speakers - Friday, October 26, 2018

    Opening General Session - 8:30 - 9:45 am

"Metaphor Making" - presented by Norm Amundson

Metaphors are an integral piece of story telling and can be used as an analytic and intervention tool for counseling and case discussion. Metaphors are creative and useful ways of understanding and externalizing problems. There are several steps in this process, starting with Identification, moving to Elaboration, exploring various forms of Extension and Perspective Shifting, and then concluding with Reformulation. In this presentation, I will be describing and illustrating the various processes with case examples. This information can be applied in many different professional contexts.

    Closing General Session - 3:00 - 4:00 pm Spencer Niles 2017

"Reclaiming Your Soul from Work" - presented by Spencer Niles

This keynote highlights the need to honor your authentic self within your career. The pace of living today and the pressure to cope within an increasingly complex career context make it easy to disconnect you from what you do (a soul-spirit disconnect). These disconnections can have disastrous effects on a person’s life. It doesn’t have to be this way, however. There are steps you can take to increase your soul-spirit connection in your life. Increasing the soul-spirit connection empowers you to live a life well-lived. The presentation can be applied to your own career reflection or your work with any client group.
