An Important Message from the ICDA Board
Economic pressures on businesses have been astounding as the economy was effectively shut down to slow the spread of Covid-19. We mourn with those who have recently lost employment due to layoff, furlough, shut downs, closures, downsizing, contract cancellations, and involuntary termination. We understand that many are being required to survive on less and are uncertain about future employment and career development opportunities. We also acknowledge that job search and returning to work can be complicated with social distancing guidelines, personal risk factors, and family care concerns.
Adding to these difficulties are the cries for social justice and ongoing protests due to continued undue violence by law enforcement against unarmed black and brown people. Along with the NCDA, ACA and ICA community, we support peaceful protests calling for social justice. However, we renounce illegal acts such as looting, destruction, and defacement of public or private property and threats to businesses and citizens. These acts threaten the remaining stability of businesses, jobs, and individual livelihood.
We call on career development professionals to support those in need with valuable networking and career assistance and to completely abandon attitudes of racism and prejudice against any group.
We are a professional organization for career development practitioners to connect and collaborate on issues, policies and practices relating to career development, pathways, and transitions.
The mission of ICDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span. To achieve this mission, ICDA provides service to the public and professionals involved with or interested in career development, including professional development activities, publications, research, public information, professional standards, advocacy, and recognition for achievement and service.
