Members Present: Lance Kaldor, Sam Galan, Stacy Harshman, Jennifer Ross, Ella Johnson, Renee Cameron, and Jessica Henderson

Old Business: An inquiry was conducted to consider changing the conference date this spring. However, the hotel is not available during the alternate date. Therefore, the conference date will remain on Friday April 6, 2018.

Committee Chair Updates:

Membership Committee- Stacey presented a draft e-mail to be sent to new members who register through ICDA website. Lance will follow up with ICA leadership regarding how membership is processed through the ICA website. This will help us in making decisions regarding contacting ICDA members who register through ICA rather than ICDA website.

Proposed discussion for December or January meeting: Decisions about how to process conference payments when attendees wish to pay for the conference and membership renewal at the conference.

Programs and Events- In the process of combining TVAP & CIS for career development month and proclamation.

Finance- Updates:

· Checking $5685.66

· Savings $5377.71

· Paypal $117.47

NCDA has a State Division Grant accepting proposals until November 15^th. Please send ideas to Lance.

Nominations/Elections-

The ICDA website hosts a career blog page and invites members to contribute blog posts related to Career Development topics. Connect with Lance at [email protected]">[email protected] to submit a blog post or learn more.

ICDA Meeting Minutes

11-28-17

Members Present: Lance Kaldor, Sam Galan, Stacy Harshman, Ella Johnson, Andrew Shaffer, Matt V., Paula Mandeville, and Jessica Henderson

New Business: A motion was made for the outgoing or Past President to manage and/or take leadership responsibility for the Proclamation each year. There was a second for the motion and a vote. The motion passed for the Past President to take responsibility to manage the Proclamation from here on out.

Update from the Idaho Counseling Association (ICA). ICA is updating their policy and procedures manual. There is a membership requirement in which divisions need to have 400 members or 70% of division members need to also be members of ICA. We currently have around 52% who are currently ICA members.

ICDA was awarded a $500 grant from NCDA. The money will be used for the conference and/or membership.

Call for volunteers to manage the ICDA Facebook page.

Committee Chair Updates:

Conference Committee: Ella reported that a request has put out to two different keynote speakers to speak on Leadership at the conference. The conference committee is calling for additional volunteers to assist with conference planning. Ella is creating flyers and updating the website to promote the conference and recruit committee volunteers. Ella was encouraged to contact the Secretary and Secretary elect for assistance with marketing. Lance proposed that we host a face-to-face meeting in February to coordinate planning for the conference.

In 2018 ICA will host a “super conference” on November 22-24^th and will combine state divisions. Members discussed the possibility of connecting with ISCA to work together in marketing for upcoming conferences.

Membership Committee- Recruited a member (Lisa Berg-Idaho Community Organization) during the proclamation. Getting together with Jennifer Ross, to go through and clean up the membership list. The committee will discuss how to utilize the $250 grant funds.

Finance- Jenn Ross is not on the call today. Jennifer is working on a policy and procedure manual that includes checklists for Proclamation and Conference, Webpage log-in information, Conference call info, etc. At the ICA conference, members will have an opportunity to view and vote for the policy and procedures manual.

Nominations/Elections- Sam will put out a call for nominations for awards related to career development.

Government Relations- Andrew was able to connect with the NCDA Government Relations Chair. Andrew will be involved in a meeting with the NCDA Govt. Relations committee to clarify appropriate activities at the state level.

Global Career Development Facilitator Discussion

Kelly has been in communication with CCE about potentially offering a closed group training opportunity for ICDA members. An e-mail will be sent out to ICDA members to identify level of interest in obtaining this training.

Committee Updates:

Membership Committee- no updates this month

Conference Committee- Working on obtaining sponsors for ICDA conference. Ella will consult with Kristi regarding the upcoming Career Development month activities.

Technology- no updates this month

Nominations/Elections- Awards will be provided at the ICDA conference. Results of election will be posted in the Board Elections Link on the website

Government Relations- Andrew has been actively seeking out other state and NCDA Government Relations officers to clarify his role and function within ICDA.

Finance Committee- ICDA owns a CD with US Bank that amounts to $5000. This is renewed annually. Jennifer advised that if ICDA ever wishes to move this money it will need to be discussed in advance.

Jennifer also wanted to alert the committee and members that the ICDA website was hacked and emails were stolen. The hackers have attempted to request money from members through those emails. ICDA will not request money from members via e-mail, and be cautious about opening or responding to suspicious e-mails.

General Discussion:

Lance has been exploring ways for ICDA to network and become more visible within the state. Lance suggested ICDA might host an event or happy hour in conjunction or leading up to Career Development Month.

Agenda

1. Career Development Month Activities

a. Update on proclamation status

i. Governor office will let us know this week if we can get a signing ceremony!

ii. Possibly a signing ceremony mid-November

b. Discussed other ideas

· Reception if signing is given

· Recognition of career supporter and ICDA gives award…

· Highlight resources or agencies that can provide support to counselors

o Send note to members to highlight on our social media

o Highlight college application week to members and counselors

o Identify area “best practices” and seek press support – write a story

2. ICDA Spring conference

a. Began planning for spring conference.

i. discussed themes, locations, etc…

discussed keeping the same location, looking at the second week of April,

members will look at respective conferences and possible conflicts during this time.

ii. Save the dates need to go out this month

iii. President elect leads this effort but will need others to also help

3. Website

· Tammy talked about website development
· She tested possible site hosting
· The link to the test site will be sent out with a request for feedback within one week…then Tammy will begin transferring information from current site.
o Feedback should be sent directly to Tammy…response information will be in the email.

4. Leadership in Career Development Awards

a. Planning to award later in the year – possibly in April at the Conference

· Possibly begin push for nominations in January

o Kick off at ICA conference

ICA ITEMS::

5. ICA Conference (Pocatello January 28-31, 2015)

a. Is anyone attending conference in Pocatello?

b. ICDA Distinguished Speaker: Due by NOVEMBER 15^th

a. Kay nominated Michael Pitts

i. She will ask him if he would consider serving as our distinguished speaker…

i. This is where we have an option to have someone in our field speak for 90 minutes on a related topic of interest to our members or anyone interested in the field.

ii. Typically there is a stipend from ICDA that we might be able to use to help with travel and so forth if need be.

c. Suggestions for presenters?

ix. Career Development track at ICA conference:

6. Each division is given three presentation slots to highlight issues/topics in their field. Historically, the Career Development track has struggled to fill its slots. Currently we have two submissions before ICA that would qualify for the Career Development track but we need one more in addition to our distinguished speaker spot.

7. Ideas for topics or speakers?

· Christie suggested a group presentation of CD resources for counselors

f. Presenter Requirements (need to have advanced degree) may need advanced degree in mental health for some topics around career development theory

x. Silent Auction Basket – be thinking about items or a theme

8. Each division is expected to contribute something for the silent auction. Last year we did a basket specked for an elementary classroom that was stocked donations from CIS and IDeal. See attachments.

g. Our basket was one of the highest grossing baskets for the conference

9. What do we want to do this year?

xi. CEU’s

10. ICDA is only able to award nationally recognized CEUs through ICA.

11. We must submit info 30 days prior to ICA they will register and keep on file.

h. Presenter Requirements (need to have advanced degree) may need advanced degree in mental health for some topics around career development theory

12. Susan Jenkins and I will draft a letter to NCA regarding presenter requirements. We are doing our research with NCDA right now.

f. ICA Legislative Meet and Greet (January)

xii. This is an event that happens in the Capitol during the session. ICA invites all of the legislators and has a Counseling Fact Sheet available to further the knowledge on the profession

13. How can ICDA being involved – Christie will send out dates; we can have our brochures available
