Lets Celebrate!

November is National Career Development Month. Each year, this provides an opportunity to increase public awareness about the importance of lifelong career development and making informed education and career decisions. In celebration, the Idaho Career Development Association (ICDA) www.idahocda.org has secured a proclamation declaring November as Career Development Month in Idaho! The ICDA Board would like to invite you to help us celebrate the great work all of you do. ICDA will be celebrating this event with the following for the Month of November:

Leadership in Career Development Awards-Accepting Nominations

The Idaho Department of Labor’s Career Information System (CIS) and the Idaho Career Development Association (ICDA) are recognizing exceptional leadership in career development throughout the state. The goals of the Leadership in Career Development Awards are to bring recognition to the organizations and people that contribute and bring attention to the importance education and career choices play in people’s lives. We are currently seeking nominations of organizations and people that achieve outstanding results in providing career development services.

Award criteria are based upon one or more of the following:
- Helping individuals increase self-understanding about their abilities, interests, values and goals as they relate to the world of work.
- Providing accurate and timely data, information and analysis of educational and occupational opportunities for individuals to make informed decisions.
- Providing counseling and guidance to assist individuals with the planning and achievement of personal career goals.
- Fostering community partnerships between education, families, agencies and business to improve local communities.
- Advocating for expansion and innovative delivery of career development resources and services to individuals in local communities.

Nomination details:

- All nominations must be received by September 1st 2013.
- Awards will be presented during National Career Development month in November.
- Nominees may be an entire organization or a specific individual.
- Persons submitting nominations may create their own form or download a form from http://idcis.intocareers.org/materials/LCD-Nomination-Form.docx.
- Nominations should not exceed three pages.
- Nominations should address award criteria with specific details as outlined above.
- Award recipients will be chosen from all nominees by a group comprised of ICDA, CIS and community leaders in career development.

National Career Development Month Commencement Ceremony

Idaho will commemorate this event November 7 when Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter signs a proclamation declaring November 2012 as Career Development Month in Idaho. After the signing ceremony three individuals and their programs will be awarded the Idaho Leadership in Career Development Award. Congratulations to our Winners!

Nominate Leaders in Career Development for Annual Awards

The Idaho Career Information System at the Idaho Department of Labor and ICDA are currently seeking nominations for the annual Leadership in Career Development Awards.

This honor recognizes individuals and organizations in Idaho that advocate for education and career readiness. If you know of any individuals or programs that deserve acknowledgement, help us by nominating them for this year's awards. Nominations are due September 1st, 2012 and will be awarded in November during Career Development Month.

Congratulations to our grant winner Shawna Smith from South Fremont Junior High in St. Anthony, Idaho!

We were very pleased by the number of proposals that were submitted for the Developing Career Dreams grant. It was very exciting to read through the proposals and learn about all the great career development work that is going on in the state.

As an organization we hope to raise more money and increase the funding opportunities for career development programs in the future. Until then, please keep up the good work!
